Perhaps, an inability to grasp the complex leads to decline of peoples. The “faculty of grasping the complex” perhaps get muted because of seduction of (pleasure principle) ease of attributing to singular causes, which is reinforced through rituals/drills; and then perhaps becomes almost a reflex leading to inertia in peoples.
Cultivating a habit of deciphering nuances might regenerate and evolve the “faculty of grasping the complex”.
